Ingredients

2 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup melted coconut oil or unsalted butter

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

1/2 cup chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8x8 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, applesauce, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and melted coconut oil (or butter). Stir until well mixed.

Add in the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth and well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix.

Fold in the chopped walnuts (if using) and chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Once baked, remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Slice into squares and enjoy the delightful fusion of banana bread and brownies!
