Ingredients

4 slices of sourdough bread

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

1/2 cup pepperoni, sliced (or any preferred toppings)

1/4 cup marinara sauce

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the marinara sauce with dried oregano, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.

Assemble the Sandwich: Lay out two slices of sourdough bread on a clean surface. Spread a tablespoon of the prepared sauce on each slice. Sprinkle a generous amount of mozzarella cheese on one slice, followed by a layer of pepperoni and then add more cheese on top. Close the sandwich with the other slice, sauce side down.

Coat with Olive Oil: Brush the outside of the sandwich with olive oil for a crispy finish. Repeat the process with the remaining slices to create a second sandwich.

Grill the Sandwiches: Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Once hot, place the sandwiches in the skillet. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. You may need to press down slightly with a spatula to ensure even cooking.

Slice and Serve: Once cooked, remove the sandwiches from the skillet and allow them to cool for a minute. Slice them in half diagonally and serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.

Enjoy Your Pizza Grilled Cheese!: Dive into the melty, cheesy goodness of this pizza-inspired grilled cheese sandwich, perfect for a quick lunch or a fun dinner!
