Ingredients

12 Sweet Hawaiian rolls, torn into pieces

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup crushed pineapple, drained (optional)

1 cup shredded coconut (optional)

Powdered sugar for dusting

Maple syrup for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

Prepare the Bread: Tear the Sweet Hawaiian rolls into bite-sized pieces and place them evenly in the prepared baking dish. If using, sprinkle the crushed pineapple and shredded coconut over the rolls.

Make the Egg Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until fully combined.

Combine: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the torn rolls, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Gently press down on the bread to submerge any dry pieces. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the custard.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and puffed. If desired, you can cover with foil for the first 20 minutes to prevent excessive browning.

Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving. Optionally, serve with maple syrup for extra sweetness.
