Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup (200g) brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/2 cup (90g) chocolate chips

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar

1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1 cup (175g) chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch square baking pan and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Prepare the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.

        - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.

          - Add cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder, mixing until just combined.

            - Fold in the chocolate chips. Set aside.

              Prepare the Cookie Layer:

                - In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.

                  - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until incorporated.

                    - In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this mixture to the creamed butter mixture, mixing until combined.

                      - Fold in the chocolate chips.

                        Assemble the Browkies:

                          - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.

                            - Gently dollop spoonfuls of the cookie dough on top of the brownie layer. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to spread it out slightly, but don’t worry about it being perfect—it's meant to swirl together.

                              Bake:

                                - Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the brownie layer comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter). The edges should look set, while the center remains gooey.

                                  Cool and Serve:

                                    - Allow the browkies to cool in the pan for at least 10-15 minutes before lifting them out using the parchment paper. Let them cool completely on a wire rack.

                                      - Cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your fudgy, chewy, chocolatey delight!
