Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 large egg

1 cup milk (or buttermilk for extra tang)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Optional: whipped cream and fresh berries for serving

Instructions

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk the egg, milk, vegetable oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Preheat the Pan: Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease with cooking spray or butter.

Cook the Pancakes: Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook for 2-3 minutes until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes until puffed and cooked through.

Serve: Stack the pancakes on a plate and serve warm with whipped cream and fresh berries if desired.
